Electrical Items

Went shopping for main electrical items after work last Friday at Mega Discount Store. Was recommended by one of my boss whom recently bought a washing machine from there recently.

Check this SMS conversation.

Me: Boss. Ur ef washer good or not ah? (Boss bought one EF brand washer; Italian washer with pretty decent specs and very competitively priced)
Boss: After I use 2nite then let u now
Me: Haha, I’m looking at it now.
Boss: At usq or katong? (There’s one outlet at United Square (usq) and one at katong)
Me: usq
Boss: The woman very persuasive…looks like a bosch though
Me: I’m more inclined to the bosch now. Looks more solid
Boss: Rich man
Me: kns

Anyway, decided on the Bosch eventually since I had the budget for it. A gift from my Zoey my sis-in-law. Mega Discount Store (MDS) itself is a pretty interesting place. Totally didn’t know about it until my boss told me. It doesn’t have any web presence and I basically can’t fish out any information on that place from any forums and such apart from it having 2 outlets one at Usq and the other at Katong.

Their prices are actually quite good. Cheaper than big names like Harvey Norman, Best Denki and Courts and just slightly more expensive than your neighbourhood shops. Why didn’t I just get my stuff at neighbourhood shops? Well that’s because neighbourhood shops usually don’t stock up on their items and they don’t have a lot of models on display. Not to mention that they usually don’t take credit card payments to keep their margin low.

So after one hour of shopping and bargaining; Yes you can BARGAIN there! I ended up with the following items.

  • Bosch Washing Machine
  • Fisher and Paykel Fridge
  • Panasonic Microwave
  • Mistral Tower Fan x 4 (3 rooms + living)
  • Samsung LCD Tv

Manage to knock off about $300++ off their stated price after some bargaining and paid a portion of it using credit card. Can’t do all credit card; have to let them earn a little as well. For those of you interested in the exact specs of the LCD Tv i bought, hold on to your horses and I shall blog about it when I get it at the end of this week. There’s a bit of story there.

Overall, I thought it was a good deal buying my stuff from there. Definitely cheaper than getting from the big names minus the hassle of getting it from neighbourhood shops. A highly recommended place to get your electrical items.

As for the sofa, I have not even bought one yet. Still didn’t not find any that I fancy.

AFAIK, you’ll be watching your brand new LCD TV sitting on the cold, hard, sofa-less living room!
